Upcycling Old Sheets into Curtains

My son recently decided to change his room from Jake and the Never land Pirates
to Star Wars (which made his Daddy very very happy).

I found some amazing fabric at JoAnn Fabrics to make his comforter (DIY Star Wars Comforter) but my husband decided to buy the sheets from Wal-Mart. Since my son doesn't like using his flat sheet and I didn't want to spend $16 on curtains that wouldn't even match I decided to use the unused sheet to make matching curtains.

Luckily for me I found that the sheet really only needed to be cut to size and sewed where I had to cut. Since my son's bed is a Full size we had plenty of fabric to use. I placed his old curtains on top of the sheet laid on the ground to size and then cut along the existing lines of the pattern

After cutting I realized that i will actually have enough extra fabric to make a matching pillowcase, since the sheet was a lot longer than the curtain i used to make a pattern.

I folded over the edge that I had cut about an inch and use a regular stitch to sew the bottom of the piece I had cut and up the side.

I sewed all  the way up the sides and then cut a small slit in the space on the top of the sheet that already was sewed that I curtain rode could fit in.

My finished product!

Bleach Shirts

My son is obsessed with the show Octonauts but you can't find the anything to buy in the store because its based in  the UK. My husband got the great idea to make him a shirt using a bleach technique. He printed out the picture he wanted using freezer paper. Cut it out the image so that it was revered and the image was the only part of the shirt showing.  He then ironed it onto the shirt. Using bleach in a spray bottle he sprayed the image. Once you remove the freezer paper, you can see that the areas you bleached are a different color then the rest of the shirt. Step 1: Print our image you want Step 2: Cut out the image, leaving the outline Step 3: Iron on to shirt Step 4: Using bleach in a spray bottle, spray the area of the shirt showing, inside the outline Step 5: Peel of freezer paper Step 6: Rinse and let dry  It came out great!   Close up of the image

Octoanuts Birthday Party

For my son's 4th Birthday he decided he wanted an Octonaut birthday party.  We had so much fun making all the decorations for this party.  Most of the ideas came from Pinterest or my husband's crazy thinking :) Pin the Eye Patch on Kwazii Homemade Octonaut Hats Applesauce Kelp Cakes My husband created wooden cutouts for photos,  we decoupaged images on we printed from the website.  Our local Gerritys grocery store made a Octopod Cupcake Cake from a design I created.  We added gummy sharks and M&Ms for more details.  My husband made a Jello Snotblob because my son is obsessed with the Christmas Octonaut episode.
