Our Star Wars Easter - Part 2

Here are the pictures of our completed Star Wars Easter bunnies before we sealed them and attached stakes.  We finished each bunny by screwing in lawn stakes into the back and sealing them with 2 coats of urethane wood sealer and some clear latex caulking around the stakes to prevent water from getting in between the wood.  Hope you enjoy them! Our Star Wars Easter Display (Part 1) - The beginning of the process

So one day while surfing Pinterest I saw a couple finger puppet star wars bunnies and got the greatest idea to make wooden bunnies inspired by the characters in Star Wars and Star Wars Rebels for our 1st ever Easter display.  This is our journey in making them First thing my husband printed out a bunny to trace onto wood. He then cut out 4 bunnies at a time using a wood saw. I then (with the help of my three year old) painted all of them by hand. I did everything free hand just looking at picture online. Now as a daughter of an actual artist I never thought I had artistic ability but I just loved painting these bunnies.  Here is a couple pictures of the bunnies during the cutting/painting process...

DIY Bleach Shirts

DIY Bleach Shirts  My Husband is really into making his own shirts. This is a simple shirt only using freezer paper and bleach. He cut out a ship image using freezer paper, ironed it to shirt, then used beach inside a spray bottle to spray around the ship image. He then peeled off the freezer paper. The bleach changes the color of the shirt wherever it was sprayed but leaves the image underneath the freezer paper unchanged. We have used this process a lot to create a lot of neat custom shirts.

DIY Reversible Star Wars Comforter

DIY Reversible Star Wars Comforter My son recently decided that he wanted to have a Star Wars bed. When looking for bedding I found that any really cool Star Wars bedding was only available in Twin. I decided to look at our local craft store and found this amazingly soft fleece fabric featuring retro Star Wars characters. I fell in love with it. I goggled the size of a Full Size bed (54"X75") and got enough fabric to have a little bit extra to deal with any uneven edges. On another trip I ended up finding another really neat piece of Star Wars fleece with all the ships and got the same amount. I sewed the two pieces wrong sizes together and then used Satin Blanket Binding to sew around all four edges. Since I used several coupons to buy the fabric it ended up only costing me about $30, a lot less then store bought ones that are not anywhere as cool!

Upcycling Old Sheets into Curtains

My son recently decided to change his room from Jake and the Never land Pirates to Star Wars (which made his Daddy very very happy). I found some amazing fabric at JoAnn Fabrics to make his comforter ( DIY Star Wars Comforter ) but my husband decided to buy the sheets from Wal-Mart. Since my son doesn't like using his flat sheet and I didn't want to spend $16 on curtains that wouldn't even match I decided to use the unused sheet to make matching curtains.  Luckily for me I found that the sheet really only needed to be cut to size and sewed where I had to cut. Since my son's bed is a Full size we had plenty of fabric to use. I placed his old curtains on top of the sheet laid on the ground to size and then cut along the existing lines of the pattern After cutting I realized that i will actually have enough extra fabric to make a matching pillowcase, since the sheet was a lot longer than the curtain i used to make a pattern.   I folded ove

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

We celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday with a magical dinner.   My very talented hubby colored the noodles all different colors, included broccoli to look like "trees", and colored the Alfredo sauce blue to look like a river.  The special surprise  "truffula trees" in our drinks, using a straw through some cotton candy.
